Biography
The mastery and spirit that the artist's work exudes has created an enormous international following. Shown in over 130 solo and group exhibitions throughout North America and abroad, he has been commissioned to create such major works for The PepsiCo Sculpture Gardens in New York, the Four Seasons Park in Singapore, The Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minneapolis, and Princeton University in New Jersey. His work is in extensive private collections in over 40 countries worldwide. In 1985, PepsiCo, whose then Chairman Donald M. Kendall built what has been called the finest collection of major 20th century outdoor sculpture, commissioned Erdman to create the monumental sculpture entitled 'Passage.' The twenty-five foot long, sixteen foot high piece is the largest sculpture in the world carved from a single piece of marble. Cut from a 320-ton block of travertine, Passage embodies lightness, fluidity and grace, epitomizing Erdman's matchless skill as an artist and a master carver.
