Biography
Ryan McCourt's architectural works can be described as generally abstract or surreal in form. Literal representations of windows, doorways, steps, curtains, etc. come through the abstraction to deliver specific references or meanings. These works question the borders between sculpture and architecture or installation, testing the line between object and place. The artist employs abstract and representational means, encouraging physical/perceptual/conceptual relationship between viewer and sculpture. McCourt holds both a B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from the University of Alberta, specializing in Sculpture and Photography. He is a multiple recipient of the Alberta foundation for the Arts Project Grant, as well as the Edmonton Artists' Trust Fund Award and the Lee Fund for the Arts Award. His work has been exhibited in many galleries in Canada and is part of permanent collections of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, City of Red Deer, University of Alberta Museums, and many private collections in Canada and the United States. Sculpturesite Gallery is honored to be the first gallery in the United States to represent Ryan McCourt's work.
